Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) accounts for 3% of all new cancer cases worldwide with a rising incidence. Approximately 20%-30% of patients with RCC present with metastatic disease. The first reported case of spontaneous regression of metastatic RCC was published in 1928 by Bumpus. Since then, multiple case reports and small series have highlighted this rare phenomenon. The frequency of this phenomenon is estimated to be <1%. Spontaneous regression of metastases is unpredictable event and is not considered an indication for nephrectomy outside the setting of further adjuvant therapies.
