Purpose:

Cystoscopy is an invasive metod used in surveillance of superficial bladder tumor and has unwanted side effects. In this review cystoscopy's complications and the impact on quality of life was assessed.

Resuts:

Post-procedural pain, lower urinary tract symptoms and sexual dysfunction are seen in patients who underwent cystoscopy. Different results are seen in patients depending on the type of anesthetic and cystoscopic methods. This results affect the quality of life of patients in different sizes. The instruments used on determining quality of life, must be established, reliable and convenient for patient populations and have known psychometric properties. To assess quality of life in patients with bladder cancer EORTC-QLQ-C30 and its sub-groups EORTC-QLQ-BLS24 and EORTC-QLQ- BLM30 scales are used. Again, one of the general quality of life questionnaire SF-36, is a scale that can be applied in many diseases including oncological diseases. In the literature, a few studies are found releated with surveillance of superficial bladder cancer and quality of life.

Discussion:

More studies are needed about subject which is well designed, interdisciplinary forcefulled, methodologically appropriate, used universally agreed QoL instruments, prospective longitudinal and have properly matched controls with the consideration of advances in technological and molecular diagnosis.
