Owing to its functional success and broad cumulation of experience open prostatectomy is still the first choice for high volume benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) surgery. Alternatives like laparoscopic simple prostatectomy, holmium laser enucleation, photoselective vaporization, bipolar resection have not replaced open surgery yet. Robot assisted approach for simple prostatectomy is performed in experienced robotic surgery centers. Short term functional results for robot assisted simple prostatectomy (RASP) are acceptable. Beside usual benefits of minimally invasive techniques it provides extra comfort for surgeon.
