ABSTRACT

Most of the sporadic Renal Cell Carcinoma (RCC) have been solitary at the time of diagnosis, however, multifocality has been seen between the rate of 4-20%. Adversely, multifocality has been dominantly seen at the time of diagnosis in the case of hereditary RCC such as Von Hippel-Lindau, Birt-Hogg-Dube ve hereditary papillary renal carcinoma. Diagnosis of multifocal renal tumor is important for the management of the patient. Conventional preoperative imaging modalities are insufficient in identification of multifocal disease, for this reason, careful intra-operative inspection of the entire renal unit should be performed routinely. The management of the multifocal RCC should be based on balancing the preservation of renal function with oncologic efficacy. Multifocality and nephron sparing surgery does not negatively effect the prognosis of the RCC. Also, salvage partial nephrectomy might be kept in mind in the case of local recurrence.
