ABSTRACT

Today, the spread of the diagnosis methods led to a substantial increase in the rate of the incidental kidney tumors. In parallel, nephron sparing surgeries have more often been used worldwide in the appropriate cases. Regardless the method practiced, bleeding control and the ischemia duration are still among the most important components of this surgery. By means of the progress achieved during the recent years, hemostatic agents and tissue sealants have been the most important instrumentals of the urologists in nephron sparing surgeries. These agents are extensively used in laparoscopic partial nephrectomy as well as in open partial nephrectomy which is still gold standard in treatment of the localized kidney tumor. Any of the hemostatic agents, which have considerably heterogenic structures, and have been used in clinical practice for over 100 years, is significantly superior to another. Accordingly, personal experiences prevail in the selection of the agent to be used. There is no doubt that better recognition of the features of these agents is the key in making the right choice.
