ABSTRACT
Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia is a major cause of lower urinary tract symptoms in men. Drug treatment is usually the first therapeutic option in patients with moderate and severe lower urinary tract symptoms. Alpha blockers and 5-alpha reductase inhibitors are the two main categories of the drug treatment which are used extensively. Long-term treatment with combination of alpha blockers and 5-alpha reductase is more effective than monotherapy. The major drawbacks of combination therapy are increased costs and side effects.
