ABSTRACT

Currently, there is increased number of studies investigating the effective preventive therapies in prostate cancer. Inhibiting the synthesis of cholesterol, which exists in high levels in prostate, seems to be an important step in preventive therapy. In this review, we have mentioned not only the general cholesterol-lowering, anti-angiogenic and anti-inflammatory effects of statins, but also their probable role on induction of apoptosis and thereby possible preventive effects on BPH and prostate cancer.
