ABSTRACT

Prostate needle biopsy is the gold standard for detecting prostate cancer . With widespread use of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) screening and digital rectal examination in an effort to detect early prostate cancer, there has been a dramatic increase in the number of men undergoing ultrasound guided transrectal prostate biopsy. Information included in pathology reports has a critical role in patient management. Optimized handling and submission of prostate core needle biopsy specimens by the urologist to the pathologist are of outstanding importance for improving the number of cancer cases detected.
