Intraoperative floppy iris syndrome

Intraoperative floppy iris syndrome (IFIS) is a new syndrome which has been recently described as associated with use of alpha adrenoreceptor blockers that used for the treatment of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia. IFIS usually occurs during cataract phacoemulsification of patients whom especially treated with tamsulosin. IFIS may cause serious complications during the cataract surgery therefore it must be kept in mind by urologists and ophthalmologists. In this review, it has been summarized the relation between commonly used and newly developed alpha adrenoreceptor blockers and IFIS.
