ABSTRACT

The patients who have no benefit from medical treatment and have severe low urinary tract symptoms should undergo a surgical treatment. There should be different treatment options for people who are under high risk for anesthesia. In the course of time many chronic diseases are probably seen together with symptomatic benign prostate hyperplasia. In the recent years prostate stents, prostatic urethral lift and prostatic arterial embolization are substantial alternative therapies for the treatment of low urinary tract symptoms related with benign prostate hyperplasia in elderly people. The aim of this review is to consider the recent articles on this subject and to update the knowledge about the endoprosthesis and prostatic arterial embolization. Although the efficiency and success of procedure is discussed in studies, there is no sufficient study comparing medical and/or surgery treatment. Significant improvements in Enhancement in the International Prostate Symptom Score, Post Mictional Residual Volume, Peak Flow Rate and Quality of Life Score were observed according to the results of most studies about these three procedure’s results. Nevertheless, larger series, prospective, randomized, placebo-controlled studies are needed.
