ABSTRACT

Radical prostatectomy is the most common initial treatment for prostate cancer. In the pathological examination 60% of the patients had high risk of pathologic features and 1/3 of the patients had biochemical recurrence. Postoperative treatment may be used as adjuvant or salvage. There are long-term results of 3 randomized studies stating that adjuvant treatment provides better biochemical control. However there continues to be an active debate regarding when radiation should be administered. As long as the superiority of immediate adjuvant radiotherapy is not proven early salvage radiotherapy should be considered. The role of androgen deprivation postprostatectomy is less well defined.
